sound recorder

I've been using the sound recorder on my laptop for the last two days to
record external sounds. I don't have an external mike--I simply hit
"record," played my guitar, and the sound recorded. But now (6 hours later)
my sound recorder only records INTERNAL sounds...if I play something on the
computer, it records fine, but it no longer records my voice or anything
externally. Any ideas about what might have gone wrong? Suggestions to fix
it? Thanks.

Depending on your system, some have internal mikes, thus the sounds
are picked up. Check here to see if it has not been Muted.
Rightclick the Sound icon (next to clock) and Open Volume Control.
Now check if Microphone (Muted) is checked and uncheck it. If it is
not checked make sure the slider is at least half way up.
