Sound problems...

I was listening to music on Itunes, then in the middle of a song, the sound
suddenly stopped. I tried to play the music again, exited and reoped itunes
to try again. These attempts failed.

So I then tried windows media player 10, then trying to play simple windows
sounds like 'asterisk', then restoring my laptop to a previous restore point
(created on 6/1/05). These didn't work.

Then I went on Help and support; windows sound troubleshooter, answered qs,
and it came back to me saying it couldn't solve my problem. This is when I
decided to hit the forums.

I can't play any audio file type at the moment, but video still works.

Can anyone help me / suggest something to me which will restore sound on my
laptop? Thank you. Nick.

Reinstall your sound card drivers.

Thanks, could you tell me how to reinstall them please?

Nick.

Sure. First you need to know what your sound card is. Look in your
computer manual or, if you have an OEM machine like HP, Compaq, etc. go
to the OEM's website for your specific computer. Another way to
inventory your hardware is by installing the free Everest Home Edition
program from Lavalys:

http://www.lavalys.com/index.php?page=product&view=1

Once you've determined what your sound card is, go to the mftr.'s
website (or the OEM's support site) and download the drivers. Usually
there will be installation instructions.

If reinstalling the drivers doesn't work, then the actual device may
have failed. First, uninstall it from Device Manager and physically
remove the card. Try putting it in a different pci slot. If it isn't
found and/or still doesn't work, try a new sound card.

If you need more help, post back to this thread.
