Long File Name

I have a song I wanted to play in iTunes. I copied "2-07 Symphony
No. 3 In C Minor, Op. 78 _Organ Symphony__ IIa. Allegro Moderato -
Presto - Allegro Moderato - Maestoso - Più Allegro - Molto
Allegro.m4a" to my desktop, and when I tried to play it (with iTunes
copying it to "C:\Documents and Settings\brazee\My Documents\My
Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Compilations\The Best of Saint-Saëns" on my
XP machine, the name was too long.

Testing, I found I can't drag the song there - but I can drag it to
"C:\Documents and Settings\brazee\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes
Music\Compilations" (the parent directory).

Is the length of the path/file too long? What's the issue?

Yes, it's too long. You are limited to a path+file name length of around 260
characters.

Counting the drive letter, colon and null terminating character the
Windows MAX_PATH is 260 characters:

"C:\<256 characters><NUL>"

I think it is due to a period in the middle
of the filename that is crashing the file.

if you saved the file you might try
renaming it with something simplier
with respect to the format:

filename.ext
