sound problems with antivirus updates

When my wife downloads updates for Norton Antivirus 2004,
she loses her sound. When she reboots, it comes back, but
like the "chipmunks" are singing everything: high,
squeaky, tinny, and soft. She can only get it back by
doing massive restores prior to installation of the
antivirus program.

(a) suggestions
(b) would installing a sound card to bypass the AC'97 chip
help?
(c) other?

Hi!
update the sound card driver.Uninstall NAV and reinstall it check what
happens.

I would chk and see with the board manufacturer to see if
they are driver updates. install those if they are updated
and that may solve the problem

I did all these things. No luck. By the way, my wife also
lost sound on a COMPAQ running Win95 -- same problems,
different antivirus software and different computer.
