sound pitch too high and music played too fast

I have a new pc with gigabyte mainboard, onboard sound chip "AC97".

The sound from an mp3 file is too fast and the sound is high pitch.

I had a quick look at microsoft knowledge base and it suggested that
there may be a problem with a codec.

I have done a totally new install and am running XP-Pro c/w SP2.

Initially I was unable to get any audio so I took it back to dealer
and they told me that they fixed it by installing a new driver.

The driver I had installed was from the cdrom that comes with the
motherboard so I was really a bit surprised that the sound did not
work straight away.

When I tried it after getting it "fixed" I immediately noticed that
the sound was the wrong pitch.

Can anyone please offer some advice or help.

Download and install the latest RealTek driver. The driver that
comes on the CD that came with the motherboard is often outdated by
the time you get it.
