Sound pitch is too high / fast

When I play back any CD music disc the artists sound too
fast (like Pinky and Perky!) Using regular MS XP home,
Windows Media player - even burning a CD with Nero, it
played back at too high a pitch, yet the burned copy
played just fine on the stereo system.
I have a feeling its something really simple, all
connections are OK, devices seem correct .... help???
 
Was you playing with the sound effects program that came with your sound
card. Look in the start>programs list for it.
