Sound not working! Please help.

J

J.

I recently formatted my computer and now my sound doesn't
work.

Details about my computer:
- Windows XP
- Intel Pentium 4 2.4 CPU
- Asus P4S533 series motherboard
- Altec Lansing ACS22 speakers

I booted up the computer today and a message popped up
saying that the computer has detected new hardware: the
Multimedia Audio Controller and C-Media AC97 Audio
Device.

I went to the Device Manager to try and find out why I am
not getting any sound and there was a yellow exclamation
mark beside the C-Media AC97 Audio Device. When I clicked
on it, it said "This device cannot start (Code 10)." I
couldn't find anything for the Multimedia Audio
Controller.

The other day, I put in the support CD that came with my
motherboard in an attempt to try and install the drivers
for the Multimedia Audio Controller, but it didn't work.
I tried installing the drivers again today. I got a huge
list of things to choose from and wasn't sure what to
choose.

I hope someone can help me figure out what to do. Thanks
in advance.

Each computer manufacturer does this a little differently.
Check your manual and/or contact the manufacturer for details on
reinstalling the sound drivers.
Also check to be sure everything else is OK in Device Manager.
Or you could skip the Support CD and go directly to the computer
manufacturers website and get the latest Windows XP drivers.
