Windows media Player plays fine and I can hear the sound. There is not sound
on AOL or from the System. The little sound icon on the bottom right side is
gone. When I work with a music program or video program and I hit play the
message comes up. "An error occurred while starting playback. The divice
specified is in use. The playback device Micorosoft Sound Mapper does not
exist"
How do I reinstall? How could I solve this problem?? Thanks!

Go to START / CONTROL PANEL / SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES
See if "mute" etc. is checked. You can also troubleshoot your audio devices
from the applet.

Jim: Under Sound and Audio Devices> Tab Volume, Everything is grayed out.
There is notthing I could select. Mute, Place volume icon in taskbar,
Advanced... everything gray......
