Sound has Static, computer is slow. HELP!

I just installed a fresh version of XP, and for some
reason, the sound has a lot of static and the computer
itself is running slowly. What can I do to fix this
problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Install the manufacturer's drivers for your different computer
components, not the basic drivers that come from MS.
