I am having a problem with my sound output devices...
Here's the story:
One day about 2 weeks ago, I rebooted my machine...
Windows [XP Pro] proceeded to restart my machine, and
load itself back, but this time without a working sound
device [sound card]. (Note: The sound card that became
unoperable was one that was integrated onto the
motherboard.) So, I rebooted once, again, after
uninstalling the device, and letting Windows [XP Pro]
find the device and install the necessary files for it.
Well, it did just that, but still had not fixed the
poblem. So, I then, installed an older model Creative
Labs sound card, after disabling all other sound devices
and drivers. Windows [XP Pro] found the necessary files
for the correct card and it still hadn't worked.
The problem is not something exterior either, such as the
speakers, because in the Sounds and Audio Devices options
under the Control Panel suggests that there is "No Audio
Device."
Any suggestions on this topic might be useful. Also,
please keep in mind that I would greatly love to !avoid!
reformatting the harddrive.
Thanks,
Nick Flynn
