I have been trying to run some educational programmes for my young son but every time we try to run the CD rom we get an error message [1058] the sound decompression software has not been properly installed. I am a beginner and have no idea what this is or how to solve the problem. Am a missing a component? Or can I sort this out myself? Please help? We have tried various discs from different sources - always the same message so it must be the machine.

Hi,

Well, your diagnosis seems correct - if it's happening with all software,
then it's likely the system. You may need to upgrade or reinstall your sound
card drivers. In order to guide you to where to obtain them, some details
about your system hardware are necessary.
