sound control pop up bar

When I adjust the sound on my laptop ( via the buttons on the front ) there
USED to be a little pop up window on the desktop that showed the volume ---in
a bar form going across ways. Now it's gone. Any ideas? Vo;ume still works,
but it is odd and something has gone wrong.

gm i am having the same problem. I though of not saying anything to you. I
hope they answer both of us. When I had this problem once before I got some
advice about disabling certain plug and play startup extensions but I can't
remember which ones, sorry to have made no sense. I just wanted to give u a
clue of the root problem.

I have since had to do the F8 ( I think ) reinstall of software, losing all
saved items
but regaining the sound bar. Although I had McAfee and kept it updated and
ran scans weekly, I must have had a virus. One night my computer would not
load up...paid $90 to have the Dell tech. guide me though the reload. I think
I will get an external HD to save important things, and redo my operating
system about twice a year just to clean it out. If you whole system is
running slow.....it may be time for you to do this. Save pics and letters
;you want and do it!

maybe our situation is different but i figured out mine was a DELL Quickset
problem. Had to disable and then re-enable on screen display for volume and
screen brightness mine is fixed
