sound icon keeps disappearing from task bar

every time i go to controll pannel to check the box to show sound volum icon
in the tool bar, it will do it and it works fine, till I shut down and
restart and it gone and unchecked in controll pannel.Any one have any ideas
why this keeps hapening?
