sound card...why me?

I recently tried to play the new Dave Matthews CD in my
computer (it's very good by the way) and my Windows Media
Player said that I no longer have a sound card. it's
worked fine until now. I've tried using the driver CD
that came with my Dell package to reinstall my Sound
Blaster brand sound card but it doesn't seem to work.
What's up?

Any messages in the event viewer?
What about the device manager -
has the device disappeared, or does it have a error status?
