I have over 92% free space on C: defrag analyze says to defrag. It only
gets to 3% and says moving "wups2dll." then instantly flashes to defrag
complete some file could not be defragged, the file it says it cannot defrag
is "\AluriaCachefile.dat" Did a search and this file is present on both C
and D partition (D has the back up files I guess) Anybody have any
thoughts....no matter how many times i try it always says i should defrag the
C volume

Microsoft suggests that this may be a software driver problem. Until this is
resolved, I am uninstalling ASC. There are MANY programs that can
adequately manage spyware, but there is only one Diskeeper and I am NOT
willing to sacrifice boot time defragmentation for this intrusive, splash
screen-running, incompatible piece of ****ware!" The webmaster removed
my post after only 15 minutes...I guess they don't want their customers to
know about this incompatibility. Don't buy this product!

Do you have Aluria Antispyware installed? Came across this on the net,
seems like it interferes with the defrag program.

Did u try defragging in safe mode? You could download a third party
tool and see if it works.

Thank you both for the input, I have removed the software as far as I can
tell (it came in the sprint / earthlink high speed protection control center)
and now at least it looks as though it has goteen somewhat better. What
third party tolls are available and maybe you have some level of trust in?

And a good antivirus. Take your pick AVG, Avast, Norton (that will get some
negative replies but I use it and its fine).

MS Anti-Spyware I use and would recommend. It provides
real time protection. Ad-Aware and Spybot are reputable
spyware detection programmes but the freeware options
do not offer real time protection. Real time protection is
only a feature in the purchase versions of these
programmes.

Norton Anti-Virus will reduce system performance at best
but if combined with Norton Internet Security ( or taken as
part of Norton System Works ) it can destroy it on an older
machine with limited RAM memory and CPU speed. It
does offer good protection but comes with a heavy price.

My remarks on Norton are directed at versions for Home
Users. The Corporate Edition I understand offers a better
experience.

You can try this utility, its fast and effiecient. The paid versions
have some nice scheduling features and it can be set to run in the
background, very gud for daily defrag.

If you run multiple antispyware with real time protection that is when you
get problems. As each program tries to do the same thing. Having multiple
antispyware will pick up infections missed by the others and give full
protection with no chance of programs interfering.

You inply the need for multiple real time protection by your use of the word
"but" saying real time protection is only a feature in the paid for version.
