Sony Vaio Laptop

My display flickered then went 90% dark. You can barely see it. I thought
that it may have gone into some type of power save or that it believed it was
running on battery. Changed battery, check all connections and verified that
the Power Savings are not on. HELP!! it is a Vaio VGN-A690. I have it
hooked to an external monitor and it functions perfectly. I also went to the
Sony site and pulled down all current drives, no luck.

Take if to a Sony Support Center and hope it's still under guarantee. The
LCD panel backlight appears to be failing.

Either the backlight or inverter went bad, could be a bad cable as well.
