Vaio PCVW30 monitor blacked out

My Sony Vaio Desktop PCV-W30 screen flickered for a few seconds and blacked
out. I was reading many different forums with screens blacking out, problem
could be monitor/video card/backlight/etc. Well I decided to turn the pc on,
turn off all the lights and use a flashlight to see if anything could show up
on the screen. I can barely make out what is shown and I can run the pc like
normal, except the screen is pitchblack and only the images are visible with
the flashlight pointing at the screen at an angle. Does anyone know what the
problem could be? This desktop computer is like a laptop,
monitor/keyboard/all computer stuff built into one piece. Any help would be
appreciated. Could it be the backlight that just went bad?

Likely the cold cathode lighting behind the screen has died. Time to send it
back to Sony!

The pc will be 2 years old in october, is this covered under warranty and if
not how much do you think this repair would cost? It's really frustrating how
so many new products can't last a reasonable time. Maybe I should stick to
Japan only products lol.

You would have to check with Sony to see the warranty on their LED displays.
It should be included in your paperwork, of course. Did you get an extended
warranty at the time of purchase?
