Sony DVD RW DRU-530A ... invalid registry entries?

A little problem with the latest & greatest Sony DVD +-RW and the XP registry..

I installed the Sony DRU-530A successfully, but after a few weeks XP stopped recognising the device. The driver fails to load due to it's "configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (code 19)". This is the error as reported in device manager

A disable & enable does not work, not does an uninstall and reinstall (with or without reboot). I searched the registry but found nothing obviously wrong

Any ideas anyone? Any advice would be appreciated, I'm lost on this one..

sounds familiar, im trying to figure this one out too. After working just fine my dvd drive and external usb cdrw drives just up and quit due to its configuration information in the registry being incomplete or damaged. I tried many different "registry clean and repair utilities" but that was just a waste of time

1) Log on with Administrative Privileges

2) Open the Registry Editor:
a) Go to Start then select Run.
b) Type regedit and click OK.

3) Backup you registry by:
a) Highlight My Computer by clicking on it once.
b) Click File (Windows XP) or Registry (Windows 2000), then Export
Registry File.
c) Select export range All; to ensure your entire registry is backed up
completely.
d) Select where you would like to save this backup, name the File, and
Click on the SAVE button.

4) Remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values:
a) Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
b) Highlight this key by left clicking on it once.
c) On the right hand side delete the values Upperfilters and Lowerfilters.

5) Restart your computer.

Or try this:

Select 'Windows Utilities' and scroll down to 'Restore CD/DVD drives to
Windows Explorer.'
Perhaps his utility will do the trick. =)

Removing the Lowerfilters values from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} worked a treat (there was no Upperfilters entry). Whomever you are, MS should offer you a job ;-

Many thanks

If you have the time to post a summary ... I would like to know how/why this solved the issue ..

Essentially, something (who knows what - but it is common, unfortunately)
corrupted some of the registry and by deleting these two values, it allows
Windows XP to rebuild the corrupted sections in reference to your CD/DVD
drives.

Third party applications (Nero, Roxio, etc) have been known to cause these
problems when installed together/uninstalled.

EZCD 5 Basic needs the update from Roxio to version 5.3.5
and there is a drive update for newer hardware also.

| That makes sense. I installed Roxio EasyCD 5 basic a week
or so ago, but uninstalled it as it does not support the
Sony DRU-530A. It was only when I installed Nero that I
noticed this problem.

| Thanks again.

And they demand you register before being allowed to download the update.
Made Nero a home here with Easy CD relagated to never again , why bother
status.

I found this thread when searching for help with my Sony DVD RW DRU-530.
It solved the problem! But now I have a new one. Now it won't read
any discs! Not DVDs or CDs. All my problems started when I installed
a cd burning program. Now my drive makes weird sounds and shows an
orange light, but won't read the discs. Is it ka-put? Can you help
with this too???

Thanks!!
