Message pops up on the desktop "Installation package for sonic activation
module cannot be found, try installation again using 'activate.msi'"
1) I have removed something called sonic from the add remove programs area
2) I searched the start menu by using the command msconfig in the start -
run menu
I have a Dell laptop
Any suggestion help greatly appreciated.

Did your Dell happen to come delivered with anything from Roxio for CD/DVD
burning. Roxio contains Sonic components. It is a place to start looking if
Roxio was supplied from the manufacturer.

Go into Control Panel and you should see an icon for something called
"Software Updater" or the like. Double-click it and change the update
settings to "never". It will normally be tracking a couple of programs,
one of which will be Sonic stuff. If you want it to track the other
program, just uncheck the Sonic box. Otherwise just tell it to never
check for updates.
