Sonic Update Manager

For the last few days, every morning when I start up my computer, the Sonic
Update Manager pops up and asks for a disk that I do not even think exists.
Whenever I try to close the first window, the progress bar starts up, and in
less than a second, the error window pops up again. I am stoping the loop
with the Task Manager. I have read previous threads and already know the
obvious solution of removing it, but I do not know how important this is to
my computer. I have recently downloaded a bunch of updates from Microsoft,
but this came about from an automatic update.
Is Sonic an important or powerful program? Do I suffer without it?

Do you create CD/DVDs?

Sonic Update Manager is part of the program Sonic MyDVD which you use to
burn your CDs if you didn't buy it it probably came installed as a bundle
included with your CD/DVD drive.
It is probably checking to see if there are any updates for the program that
you have installed, it doesn't happen with me and I can't remember how I
stopped it checking but if you don't intend upgrading the program have a
look in the options or preferences of it to see if you can stop it that way.

No, but I do burn a few CDs to give some people files of mine.

Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs --> locate and remove the Sonic
Update Manager... If you just remove that component - it will leave all
other Sonic/Roxio software alone and the only thing you miss out on is
automagical updates - which you obviously are not getting now anyway.
