somewhat OT: desk/chair

I am in the midst of a major re-do of my computer/living space. Along
with building a computer I am figuring out my other space issues. (The
computer will end up as my stereo, DVD player, and, perhaps, TV.) So,
anyway, I was thinking about wireless keyboards and flat panel
displays and such and wonder why I would have a desk? I can put the
display on a shelf at the right height, but what about the
keyboard/mouse? Anyone know of interesting designs, build or buy
around? My issue is small foot print, not some cool metal thing like
these:

I was thinking of a chair with a keyboard shelf or some folding shelf
or maybe something more innovative than I came up with. Anyone have
some ideas?

LOL. I haven't decided if the first one is really a computer chair or some
sort of Sci-Fi torture device but I like the pic at top of the second one.
Looks like a cutaway view of someone in a Mercury capsule. Lite the fuse, Bob.

Does it come in a two seater Gemini version?

I'm not sure I'd like the idea of having to 'eject' just to get another
beer, though.

I don't have a great idea for you but I can tell ya one thing. Coffee and
side tables are an ergonomic nightmare.

No desk or chair.

I'm not sure about space, but I'm sure about ergonomics.

Lying on a modern air bed underneath a 19 inch ViewSonic PF790
(actually diagonally slightly less than 45° directly in front of my
head, over my midsection, the monitor is on nylon ropes suspended
from a crossbar), a cordless keyboard on my tummy, and a cordless
mouse on a hard flat rectangle used on the left or right.

That's how I spell ergonomics.

If I could spell that spousal approval I would go for it.

LOL. Now that would be fun.

Of course not, that is why you get Internet enabled wireless robots.
Sheesh.

Yeah, but no coffee and work is a physical impossibility.

Well, I am now in the design the furniture phase. Since this is our
living room as well as my office I am considering something
"innovative" (which probably means I just don't remember where I got
the ideas.) The current thought is a divider/desk. 4' square, on
wheels, 7" deep. The basic item is 1/2" plywood, good one size, the
other size has white tileboard to act as whiteboard. The good side
gets decorated. The other side is the "office". Attach the monitor at
the appropriate place, make a fold up/down keyboard tray. Put the
system on the platform. Roll it away from the wall to work, roll it
against the wall to have a living room. Should work.

Sounds workable to me.
