some websites extremely slow with IE

My friend and I have both been experiencing problems with IE loading some
websites at a snails pace, while firefox will load the page really fast. I'm
on XP Pro and he's on HE, we both have SP2.
I'm on Verizon DSL and he's on Charter Cable.

For me
http://www.wowcentral.com
http://www.amazon.com
http://www.bmgmusic.com

For him
wowcentral also
http://www.supernova.org
and some other torrent type site.

The only site that loaded mutually slow was wowcentral
I was able to load the sites he complained about just fine. Now, he's saying
everythign is loading normally, while I'm still having problems with the
wowcentral site. And now also for me, every site I visit appears to load
fine except the wowcentral one still.

Now, I'm not just talkin about regular site slowness or someones idea of one
browser being totally better than the other. I'm talkin about 8 seconds for
a page to load regardless of the link you clicked on.

Anyone have a clue as to what the heck is up with IE?

Hi,

I've visted the site in question, and while it does take around 8 seconds to
load, it's also lagging;

So, yes, the site is lagging. However, it wouldn't be entirely accurate to
say firefox loads the page faster. It seems to take approximately the same
amount of time to load the page fully (perhaps a second less?), but it uses a
different approach then IE. If I'm not mistaken, I *think* the difference is
that IE usually waits for the whole page to be ready before displaying it,
whereas firefox displays the page as it recieves it (giving placeholders to
everything else).

I may be wrong about the above, but I recall something along those lines.

So yes, the page is loading slowly, but this seems to be the result of a laggy
webserver. And even then - it's only 8 seconds :p.

Regards,

Altrus

Okay, ping aside, what about when you try with firefox (if you have it
installed)?

Oh, sorry, i stopped reading after the ping.

That's strange it loads at the same speed for you on firefox as well.
Especially after loading the first page, the images stay the same throughout
because it's all based on a template. no images should really change it you
click on say, the contact us link. which takes the same time to load as
well. :(

Hi,

At this time, the site seems to be working well (significantly better than
when I last tried). Are you still having problems with it? As previously
mentioned, it may simply be a case of heavy traffic slowing down the site. While
most of the content does stay the same, IE does reload the entire page when I
click on a different link.

Considering this problem is limited to that site, I'm inclined to believe
this is due to server latencies (on their side), and little to do with you. As a
result, the best advice I could offer is to try and visit the site on off-peak
hours.

If you have additional information, please do not hesitate to post it,

Thanks,

Altrus
