Some advice?

Tom

One of my computers doesn't seem to be able to connect to
my network. BUT, when I boot in safe mode with networking
it works fine.

I know safemode only boots with a minimal set of drivers
and executes only certain parts of win.ini and
system.ini. I tried the trick of renaming win.ini to get
a fresh file, but that didn't fix it. I don't know what
to try next.

Does anyone have advice on how to figure out what's
causing the problem? Or would I be better off not
investing so much time and just reinstall XP?

Tom,

Not sure if this will help, but have you tried using
msconfig?

Start with a minimal load, and slowly increase it till
you find the conflicts?

Hope it helps

Tom,

MSConfig gives you the ability to selectively disable loading of components when
booting in normal (non-safe) mode. You can, at your discretion, do a:
- Normal startup
- Minimal startup
- Selective startup (anywhere between the two), and selecting specific
components to include.

You also might benefit from defining your problem more precisely, and someone
here might be able to help you. Saying "doesn't seem to be able to connect"
isn't giving anyone too much of a clue.

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

Have you tried adding a PCI NIC to see if that helps? They can be had for
less than $6 these days... that sure beats $35!
