SOLVING PRINTER PROBLEMS

I spent the better part of the day trying to find out how come my printers
won't work with the Vista upgrade. The computers see them, but try installing
a driver and then time out with a message stating "the specified printer
monitor is unknown". Nobody at Microsoft could help, and refused to believe
that the message board has plenty of posts about the problem. they wanted my
to take this up with HP.

Anyway, I found this post and it solved the problem...

http://vistafix.blogspot.com/2006/12/installing-networked-printers-specified.html

The problem is in something called "UAC" which stands for User Account
Control. If you go to control panel, enter "UAC" in the search box, then
click on the result, you will get a checkbox to enable UAC. Once you
restart, you will be able to add your network printer without a problem.
Hope this helps....

To bad this didn't work in my case, maybe it's because i'm running Vista
Ultimate Dutch version, I'm going to use the language pack of English again
and see if that works.

If anywone has more suggestions, please share them.

UAC is enabled by default anyways so why would you need to enable something
that's already enabled?

Also it says to turn off UAC at the end.

I really do NOT recommend that as it disables a huge portion of the new
security features in Vista.

All in all that tutorial gets a huge thumbs down security wise.
