I have deleted the Windows games from my new XP Media Center computer, but
two rogue files from solitaire keep reappearing (sol.exe and a "prefetch"
file) in the Windows\system32 folder. It doesn't matter how I delete them,
whether by sending them to the recycle bin or by holding the shift key and
hitting DELETE, they just keep coming back (or maybe they don't really get
deleted.)

How can I get the files off my hard disk permanently? Please help; I am weak.

I wouldn't have guessed it but it is a protected file. It gets restored form
the dllcache folder. Why not uninstall it using Control Panel|Add/Remove
Programs|Windows Components?

Thanks, Dave. I had previously uninstalled Games using Add/Remove Programs -
Windows Components. All the games are gone, but I can still find these two
files on my hard disk by searching. I want them off the hard disk so I can't
find them. Any way to remove protected files?

Delete the copies from the dllcache folder first.

I've set Windows Explorer to show all hidden files and folders, but Search
can't find a dlllcache folder. This is Win Media Center edition. Could it be
different?

I wouldn't think so. It's in C:\Windows\System32\dllcache.

and folders", then uncheck the box for "Hide protected operating system
files"

Yes, that worked! (The system told me that I had deleted protected files,
which could make my system unstable, and instructed me to insert my Windows
disc to restore it. I ignored that, and after shutting down and rebooting a
couple of times I believe the computer is fine. So thank you very much! You
have helped me reclaim my life.-
