Files cannot be deleted

I want to delete XP games ... e.g. mine.exe and sol.exe. I delete them from
system32, delete them from prefetch, empty my trash, and go back to Explore.
There are the files, still there. I can mark the files as hidden, but that
does not get rid of them permanently. Any suggestions as to how these files
can be permanently eradicated? Must be something that is protecting ALL
system files from being accidentally deleted, but I don't want to
accidentally delete them, I want to intentionally delete them.

Don,

Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - Add/Remove Windows Components -
Accessories and Utilities - Details - Games - Details - select individual
games.

Kind Regards,

Thanks, Colin, but I've already tried that route too. Has me puzzled ... the
programs just refuse to go away. I suspect maybe HP put in a background
program that automatically udates / repairs system files. I got rid of them
for a month by making them into hidden files, but they magically reappeared
one day.
