Solitaire games missing

I have used the solutions found on this message board for getting my missing
Solitaire games back. I tried the Add/Remove Windows Components steps several
times. I even tried reinstalling them with the Windows XP CD that came with
my computer. Everything comes back except the Solitaire games. Could this be
a problem with the Service Pack 2? Thanks for the help.

Hi LeAnne,

Maybe they are installed but minus the shortcuts to them...
To test this theory click START / RUN and type: sol
If the game launches, we'll just need to create shortcuts.

Go into Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs, then click the Add/Remove
Windows Components in the left pane. With Accessories and Utilities
highlighted on the first screen, click the Details button. Single
left-click Games in the next screen to highlight it, then again click the
Details button. On the resulting screen you can add or remove check marks
from any of the listed games.

Yes, that worked. The regular solitaire game is still there. Can you help me
get to the others and put back the shortcuts? Thank you!

Hi LeAnne,

If you click Start / All Programs is it possible that you aren't seeing
the entire menu? The "Games" folder might show up if you click
little arrow to expand the Start menu to show less used items. :)

If not, Here's How To restore the Games Shortcuts to your Start Menu:

1. Click here to download the Windows XP Game Shortcuts:
http://mvps.org/nibblesnbits/Games.zip (It's my site, it's safe)

2. Click "Open" when presented with the Save / Open dialogue

3. Click "Extract all files" once the .zip folder opens > click Next

4. Copy and paste this path when asked where files will be extracted to:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Games

5. If asked to replace existing Files click "Yes to All".

Let me know if you have any problems. :)

Hi LeAnne,

In step 4, copy / paste this path instead.

Hi LeAnne,

Try Chris's method, as that's the better method of the two.
If Chris's method doesn't work, try and describe in as much

I tried Chris's method before and the shortcuts are still missing. The link I
was referring to was the link you gave me to download shortcuts for the
Solitaire games. It's http://mvps.org/nibblesnbits/Games.zip but when I
clicked on it I got a page that said "The Page Cannot Be Found."

LeAnne, when you're using my description to "reinstall" the games, are the
boxes checked when you first get there? If so, remove the check marks and
then OK your way out, restart your system, and then go back in and put the
check marks in again. Sometimes it needs a little nudge (or thump!) to
work. The games should then be listed on All Programs/Games in the fly-out
menu.

Thank you. That did it. Before I was just checking and unchecking but not
rebooting in between.

Thank you. That did it. Before I was just checking and unchecking but not
rebooting in between.

LeAnne, when you're using my description to "reinstall" the games, are
the
boxes checked when you first get there? If so, remove the check marks
and
then OK your way out, restart your system, and then go back in and put
the
check marks in again. Sometimes it needs a little nudge (or thump!) to
work. The games should then be listed on All Programs/Games in the
fly-out
menu.

I tried Chris's method before and the shortcuts are still missing. The
link
I
was referring to was the link you gave me to download shortcuts for the
Solitaire games. It's http://mvps.org/nibblesnbits/Games.zip but when I
clicked on it I got a page that said "The Page Cannot Be Found."

Hi LeAnne,

Try Chris's method, as that's the better method of the two.
If Chris's method doesn't work, try and describe in as much
detail possible what happened when it didn't work. Thanks. :)
