Software is running slowly HELP PLEASE

Hello, I have Win XP and 80 GB hard drive. I used only 40 GB but my PC is
somethimes too slow to manage e.g. Internet, and Azureus. If I want to e.g.
turn off one window of internet it is going to sign NOT RESPONDING,
somethimes is this sign on DVD player on my PC. The computer is brand new and
I have Avast on it. Please help me, thank you

try running msconfig and taking unneed apps out of startup...
being a new machine, it's probably got a dozen or more apps there.
keep your virus checker there...but most of the rest can be unchecked

How much memory?
While your problems do not seem only memory related, your description seems
like you could use more?
For Windows XP, 512 MB RAM is usually a practical minimum.
