software installation problems

I recently had a virus and some spyware on my computer. I used Spybot from
MajorGeeks.com to clear it out. But now when I put a new software disc in my
computer, it won't install. I have a feeling that spybot also removed some
of my windows files. Should I attempt to re-install Windows XP or what?

Please help us to help you. What does "it won't install" mean? What happens
when you try? If you get an error message, please quote it verbatim.
