Software installation problem.

I just bought a digital camera, and neither its driver or the Adobe
PhotoDeluxe 4.0 software which came with it will install on my computer at
home, although both work with my computer at work. A dialogue box comes up
headed '16 bit Windows Subsystem' containing the message
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT The system file is not suitable for running
MS- DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the
application.

I have the option to click 'Close' or Ignore'. Both options close down the
install. I've tried installing in Safe Mode, but get the same message. Help!

I ran eventvwr but Outlook Express will not allow me to post the result
because it's too large- 256K.

Steve,

Adobe says PD 4.0 was discontinued in 2002. this is an explanation of
how to make older programs work (16 bit programs)
http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/16bit_fix.htm

Good luck.

Steve,

Copy the file(autoexec.nt) from the "c:\windows\repair" folder to the
"c:\windows\system32" folder

Error message when you install or start an MS-DOS or 16-bit
Windows-based program
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=324767

Also can be caused by a Trojan installing a file windupdater.exe and
creating registry entries for that file.

AVAST (free antivirus software) can be the cause if SP2 is installed:

You can put back the standard version of autoexec.nt by copying a backup
copy held in windows\repair to windows\system32.
