XP and 16 bit application

I am trying to install software to link my computer with A Bayer Ascencia
Diabetes blood glucose meter so I can monitor my diabetes care. When trying
to install the software I get this error message:

16 bit Windows Subsystem
C:/windows/system32/autoexec.nt
The system file is not suitable for
Running MS-DOS and MS Windows
application. Click close to terminate.

The software will not install. Any Suggestions anyone?
Thanks!

Also can be caused by a Trojan installing a file windupdater.exe and
creating registry entries for that file.

AVAST (free antivirus software) can be the cause if SP2 is installed:

You can put back the standard version of autoexec.nt by copying a backup
copy held in windows\repair to windows\system32.

This is a remnant from a virus removal.

Fix:
Copy the autoexec.nt and the config.nt files from "C:\Windows\Repair" into
the "C:\windows\system32" folder
