Software /freeware to stop Instant Messenger over house network ?

I'm looking for software to run on one PC in the house and "turn off"
AOL Instant Messenger access throughout the house on other PCs (name
the kids pc's).

Are there any programs that can log-into the wireless router and block
transmission of AIM messages ?

Thanks !

doesn't aol have parental controls to let you block im's? i know there used
to be a keyboard key combination that would turn im's on/off.

Thanks - I know how to disable IM on an individual machine.

I'm looking for a "network wide" program to turn off AOL IM traffic
through the router.

So from computer in family room, I would like to run a program which
stops all traffic from kids PCs upstairs.

Thanks for any help !

D.Dave;

Since you have more than one computer, I'm assuming that you have a
router. That being the case, you can stop & start all AIM communication
over your lan from any computer on that lan.

AIM uses port 5190 for communication. Go to your router's (webadmin)
port management page and you'll find an area for enabling and stopping
activities by port number.

Many routers now allow adding rules such as time constraints to ports.
So, for example, you could set times for the port to be open and closed.

Of course, it depends on your (theoretical) router. Get the model
number and get thee to the manufacturer's website.
