I am looking for the best software package to catalog and manage the programs installed on a single workstation (ie. not one of the expensive enterprise packages that monitor an entire networkd and cost a fortune).
The only packages that I have come across are SoftCAT and Software Catalog. Of these, SoftCAT seems much the better. However, setting up the database will require a considerable investment of time, and I would like to be sure that I have a good solution, and one which will be around for a long time.
Does anyone have any views on SoftCAT (and particularly whether it is here to stay), and can anyone recommend any alternatives?
