Hi guys,
I`m new to PC Banter forum and I need help please.
I`m running Windows XP and have Norton Internet Security installed
Recently for no apparent reason Windows started crashing randomly. On
start up a message box would appear stating that the system had
recovered from a serious error, send report which I have on several
occasions.
After numerous system crashes and several attempts each time of trying
to restart the system via the reset button as the system failed to
restart automatically, I decided to re-install Windows XP after trying
several System Restore points to no avail.
At the first attempt the system crashed but I did manage the
re-installation at the second attempt.
After re-installation, a message box came up stating that new hardware
had been detected, in the form of Syncru Tru Emu H20, click to install,
which I did.
Alas, I still have the problem and I have noticed that when I go to
System Restore, that automatic restore points are not being created and
neither can I create them manually, but on each date in bold since I
re-installed Windows XP (ie. every day), there is a log of Software
Distribuition Service 2.0 recorded, sometimes once, sometimes several
times each day.
What is Software Distribuition Service 2.0 and could this be the root
cause of the problem?
I cannot find it on the system search and it`s the first time that I
have noticed it.
I would be eternally grateful if someone out there can help me resolve
this irritating problem by advising me what to do.
I am really lucky to have got through this cry for help without the
system going down on me!

Yours in hope

This is *not* PC Banter Forum. This is the Microsoft newsgroup
"microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support." PC Banter Forum is a
third-party company that picks up Microsoft newsgroup posts and reposts them
and also send your messages to the newsgroup looking for answers.

Most of us here think that fhis is a disreputable thing to do, and many
people will not answer questions that arrive this way. I recommend that you
set up up Outlook Express as a newsreader and go directly to the newsgroups
to ask your question. You'll get much more and better help that way.

Norton is the cause of your problems with System Restore. Ditch it,
fast, and replace it with a different product such as sTrust, Trend
Micro, Bit Defender, Kaspersky or Panda.

Good luck
