My system is running Windows XP Pro SP2 and I also have Windows Defender
installed and running. Automatic updates are turned off as I prefer to
do my updates manually at a time of my choosing. The computer typically
is online and running 24/7.
Since installing Windows Defender, I have noticed that System Restore
has changed the name of the daily restore point it creates from "System
Checkpoint" to "Windows Defender Checkpoint", which is not a problem.
However, I am also seeing additional checkpoints being created in the
middle of the night with the name "Software Distribution Service 2.0".
In the past, I would only see a checkpoint with this name created when I
was installing updates. Why are these checkpoints now being created when
I am doing nothing on the computer?
