So many clients, so little bandwidth

I have a client using a number of Windows 2000
workstations that we regularly install critical updates &
patches on. The problem is when we get a 15MB update and
it takes a half hour or more just to download. I looked
into the Software Update Services but that seems to want
a server involved and they don't use one. How can I get
these updates onto a CD so I can update them quickly?

Although it is a bit of a pian you could download the
updates from the windows catalog and then store them on
the network. As for ordering a CD they don't come out
fast enough to be of much help, AFAIK.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not looking to order a CD but
instead be able to download the critical updates and put
them on a CD to apply them faster than waiting for it to
download to each system. I went to the Windows Catalog
but nothing resembling 'Windows Updates' jumped out at
me. Could you be a little more specific as to where I
can get these updates for download? Thanks!

If you visit

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp

Then select the updates you require to download to your machine, where,
presumably, you can then burn them to CD.

If you are visiting the Windows Update site, you will simply be given the
opportunity to update *the machine you are working on*. This site allows you
to download update executable packages for you to install at a later date.
You will also need to know which updates you need before you visit the site,
which service pack you are running as there are some that are service pack
specific & also don't forget to check the listing for non-service pack
specific updates.

There is a 'hack' around that allows you to run SUS on a Windows XP
workstation, assuming you don't have more than 10 pc's...
