Snapshot Viewer Enhancement

Guest

I would like to recommend that the Snapshot Viewer for Acces be enhanced to
include a text search feature. This would greatly increase the usability of
this product. Thank you in advance for your consideration of this request.

Hi Dean,

I suggest that you send your request to: (e-mail address removed)

Microsoft employees *sometimes* answer questions posted to this newsgroup, but its really quite
rare. You should be aware that
these newsgroups are primarily peer-supported, and by far the majority of questions are answered
by non-Microsoft people, including myself, who share their knowledge out of a sense of community
and fellowship.

Hi Tom,

FYI the OP was posting from
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx where one can post a
question or make a suggestion. I believe this is now the preferred way to
make a wish known.

Hi Joan,

I wasn't aware that the public newsgroups were considered the appropriate place to make one's
wishes known. I went to the page you indicated. When I use the search box in the upper right
corner, and enter the term "Product wish" (without the quotes), the first hit I get is the
following:

How to Contact the Microsoft Wish Program
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=114491

Thanks,
Tom

Well there are nntp newsgroups, and then there is this web portal that you
saw. When one creates a new post using it, they can choose 'Question' or
'Suggestion'.

Okay, thanks.

When I click on new post, I see 'Question' or 'General comment' as the two choices. I suppose a
suggestion falls under the category of a general comment.

In answer to the original poster, Dean is probably better off to use the CutePDF utility with VBA
code to create a PDF file instead of a snapshot file. I have heard others ask members of the
Access Development Team, at meetings of the Pacific NW Access Developer's Group (which are held
on Microsoft's campus) why they don't provide the capability to export directly to .PDF. I'm not
sure what the politics are behind their decision to not include this capability in Access, when
the same folks who are asking point out that SQL Server [apparently] includes this capability.

There are different portals. If you go to

http://www.microsoft.com/office/com...mspx?dg=microsoft.public.access&lang=en&cr=US
you'll see the option for 'Suggestion for Microsoft'. The idea behind this,
is that other users of the web interface can view a suggestion and then vote
on whether they agree with it or not. Here's an example:

http://www.microsoft.com/office/com...06fe1e-57f3-4d5a-adf8-777d3ae5e100&sloc=en-us

That was posted as a suggestion, and you can see the voting buttons.

Thanks Joan.

I think it's pretty strange that Microsoft would have people make suggestions on a public
newsgroup, when they've *got* to know that only a minority of the people who post questions and
answers actually use their homegrown portals, but I stand corrected. (I say public newsgroup,
since Michael Kaplan told me recently that Microsoft has not run any of these newsgroups for
quite some time). I can see the value of being able to vote on various suggestions, but this
feature sure appears to be somewhat unknown. I pretty much always use the newsreader built into
Outlook Express to read this newsgroup. One has no such indication that such a feature is
available when using OE to read these newsgroups.

Maybe they should have Annik, the Crabby Office Lady
(http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011264381033.aspx), prepare a column that
discusses the various portals that Microsoft offers for obtaining assistance and making
suggestions on Office products.

These web portals for the MS groups are fairly new. Certainly long-term
regulars of newsgroups use a newsreader, and aren't likely to switch to the
web newsreader (it's dreadfully slow).

I don't know what the figures are, but it seems to me that quite a few
people post via the web interface. Also, if a person asks a question within
the help system, and they have office online turned on, if they don't like
the answers that come up, they are redirected to the web interface to ask
their question in one of the groups.

Yeah, I'm painfully aware of this misguided feature that Microsoft has implemented. I think it is
the reason that this newsgroup gets questions posted on just about any Microsoft product. Several
times per week, one can read answers similar to this posted by MVP John Vinson:

Microsoft's Help system has landed you in the wrong newsgroup: this
one is for the database program Microsoft Access.

Please use the dropdown box (the one that says "Access" by default)
to select a more appropriate newsgroup, microsoft.public.word.general
for example.
