SMAX4PNP ERROR

I posted an message a few days ago about an SMAX 4PNP error on the computer
but did not post what the error message said. It happened again this
morning, I was opening an e-mail with an attachment which had music with it.
The program hung up and I received the following message: "SMAX 4PNP ERROR:
Program not responding, if you close the program now you will lose all
unsaved information. You can return to windows or end program now". What is
causing this and how can I correct the problem. Thank you!

It sounds like you need to find out what your sound card is and download and
reinstall the drivers for it. SMAX is short for Sound Max which comes with
many VIA AC '97 sound cards. You will need to go to Start > Control Panel >
Performance and Maintanence > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager. Look
for sound video and game controllers and try to figure out what kind of sound
card or on board sound(most likely) that you have. There is a free program
which will tell you what your drivers are its called Everest Home Edition u
can get it here:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/Everest-Home-Edition.shtml
Use it to figure out what your sound card is then either come back and post
it to us or go to google and search for the drivers for it to reinstall.

Good Luck

Thank you for you quick reply. First I went to the webiste you suggested and
got the following message: Page 404 not available. Next I went to the control
panel on the computer and found the following: Sound Max Integrated Digital
Video; Audio Codecs; Legacy Audio Drivers, Media Control Devices; Legacy
Video Capture Devices and Video Codecs. I ran the troublesthooter on all of
them and the report said all were working properly. What should I do now?

Hi Barbara,

Do a google search for Everest home edition and download it. here is
another download site link:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

When you get it downloaded just run the program and it will unpack it to
c:\program files\lavalys\Everest home edition then run the everest.exe file.
When it is up just click on motherboard then motherboard again then in there
it should tell you the motherboard ID and motherboard name and just repost it
on here. Also, on the left click on multimedia then click on pci/pnp audio
it will tell you what you have and repost it on here as well. Get back to us
and hopefully we can find you some new drivers. I will only be able to
respond until 5:30pm eastern time then I'm gone for the weekend but I will
check back on Monday. So if you need further help I'm sure someone can help
you out with it if you don't get a chance to reply back before I leave today.

Good Luck

The Everest Home Edition has been discontinued when I go to the websites you
suggested. I could never get past that message.

Thanks for the Belarc website. I ran the advisory and this is the information
I think that you wanted: BIOS: Dell Computer Corporation A02. Multimedia:
SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audo. If you need any more information, let me
know as I printed off the information from Belarc analysis of the computer.

Since you have a Dell, go to Dell's website for your specific model
machine and download and install the driver that matches the
information you got from Belarc.

Hey Barbara,

Just trying to figure out if Malke Got you up and running the other day I
haven't seen a post back unless you reposted. If you don't know where to go
to get your drivers in the dell website just go to
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&cs=&s=gen
then put in your service tag or select your model from the list. Then
select your operating system. Then click find downloads Then go to audio
devices. Then find your audio device that matches what Belarc told you.
Then install it and you should be good to go. Anyway thanks Malke for pickin
up my slack over the weekend.
