"not responding" window

Every time I shut down my computer, I get a window saying "SMAX 4PNP is not
responding". WHen I searched for this program, it finds three different
files; two are applications; one of those being a driver and one PF file. The
PF file is SMAX4PNP.EXE-04F5E4E6.pf and i believe is the one causing the
trouble. Does anyone know anything about this? My computer has been running
disgustingly slow now matter what I do so I'm wondering if this has anything
to do with it.

These files are part of your sound card's drivers. Get updated drivers and
see if that helps.

Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from:

1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM computer
(HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific model
machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor or System Information for Windows.

If you have installed drivers from Windows Update, you can roll them back:

Smax4pnp.exe is a program which could have been installed by you, or may
have even arrived on your computer the day you purchased it as this may have
been preinstalled software. The actual disk location is also listed below,
always verify where its located on your hard drive, as this makes sure it is
not spyware or adware simply placed elsewhere on your computer, and using

This is a file Analogue Devices and the file's disk location is listed

No, it won't. You probably have other issues going on. But since you only
provided details about the SMAX 4PNP error showing up at shutdown, that's
what I addressed.

In general:

Be sure the computer is clean:
