Smartphone sync

I was syncing my smartphone to my laptop fine. I just got a new laptop and
want to do the same with the previous phone. When I connect the phone to the
pc it finds it, but it appears in sync center as a media device and wants to
sync it with medai center. It's properties do say it is pocketPC(5.0 BTW). I
can't create the proper type of sync partnership. I can browse the device
from the computer applet but that's about it.

I need to get Vista to allow me to see it as a Windows Mobile device as
opposed to a media device. Do I need to delete a previous partnership on the
phone first? I looked and couldn't find much.

Oh, I don't want a dual sync setup, the new pc is defective and I'm setting
up the new one to replace it. Single partnership only.

Thanks

It came installed on the pc, Both the Sync center and the Mobility center.
However, I have found that I can't get the Mobility center to run. I don't
know if this is because it doesn't see the deivce or not though. When I click
Have you installed the Windows Mobile Device Center software? This is
Vista's replacement for ActiveSync and is necessary to sync your Smartphone
properly.

FIXED

Out of the box Mobile Device Center was defective. I installed ver 6.1 and
it worked right away. I saw it was installing the proper drivers for Windows
Mobile and sure it enough it fired up the Device Center and ran.

I thought it might be the version, but I went back and checked the other pc
and it is running 6.0 which is what should have been on this machine. So it
looks like the image right out of the box for the machine is bad or damaged.
I haven't installed anything else yet so there's nothing to interfere on here.

Reinstalling would have been my next suggestion, so I'm glad you thought of
that and tried it. Congrats!

I had actrually reinstalled the image once already. I installed AIM 6.5 and
it killed the Network and sharing app. I expected this as it did it to my
other pc also. So I made sure to make a recovery image right off the bat. I
also created a restore point, but it trashed that. It kept giving me an error
that it couldn't complete the restore from that point.

Seems to be working fine now.
