Smart Media Card Reader

I plug in a Smart Media Card reader into a usb port ( I
have 4 & have tried them all )& under device manager it
shows the removable disk drive, but under My Computer it
doesn't show a removable drive. This card reader( for my
digital photos ) worked fine until 1 month ago, but not
since. The card reader works fine on my lap-top. My
desktop ( problem computer ) has Windows XP Home Edition.
My lap-top has Windows XP Professional.
Problem solution out there?

Right click on My Computer and select Manage. On the following screen,
select Disk Management. Does the removable drive show up on the right hand
side of the screen? Is it assigned a drive letter?
