Smart Cards and Standalone PC

Trying to get smart card required logon to work on a standalone XP Professional computer. I have the KB834875 hotfix installed, so "interactive Logon : smart card required" is available. However, how do i authentricate, without a Server PC to issue/verify the Smart Card ?
 
yes i do. I have 2 Reader available, a GemPC 410 and a USB keyboard with a O2micro reader built-in.
 
3 weeks and no suggestions ?

anyone ?

the card reader and smart card are working, i need to understand and implement certificates on a standalone XP machine.

Help !
