Windows XP Small problem

Hi all i hope this is in the right section,so my little problem is when i first boot my pc after about 15-20 mins the screen will flicker and the timeglass icon will show up like a program is running,is there anyway i can find out what is the program or problem is,thanks all.

Control>alt>delete >box ="applications running" have a look in that you will see whats running?
