Small icon beside a website on address bar

Hi,

When I install Windows 98, I got IE6.0 as well. On the
Address bar, different websites have their own icon
displayed beside it. After sometime they suddenly
disappeared. Instead of various colorful icons, now there
is only the blue IE icon beside any website name on the
address bar.

What was happening? How could I get them back??

Thank you for anybody's kind help.

IE considers these things (called "favicons" or "webicons") to be temporary
internet files, so it gets rid of them after a while. Also, if you clean
out your internet cache, they will disappear as well.

Since this is built in to the browser, unless MS comes around to changing
the browser behavior there isn't much you can do. You can take some
actions to manually save them (or write a script or install an application
to do it), but IMHO its more trouble than it is worth.

Other browsers do a much better job with these, but since this is an IE
forum, we won't get into that.
