Sluggish/jittery behaviour while heavy draw from CDROM

My machine, which didn't used to do this (3/4 of the first year I had
it) now sluggish/jitters when using the CDRW, either burning, or
reading. Mouse skips, MP3 playing distorted, etc.

Running W2k SP4. I just wiped the OS as it was hozed (and because of
this problem) and reinstalled this weekend. Problem isn't as bad, but
still VERY noticable.

Any thoughts....

Any thoughts....

Check the DMA setting in device manager or if you have Nero Burning ROM then
you should have Nero InfoTool.

Yep, optical drives on PIO mode only. Changed to DMA. I'm burning CD
at 40x, playing MP3, running Agent, Outlook without a hitch!
