Slower Recovery From Standby with ATI

I recently switched from an AGP Nvidia card to an ATI 9600XT. I'm happy
with the card but something puzzles me. After my monitor switches to
standby, any keyboard/mouse action would wake up my Sony CPD-200ES very
quickly (5 seconds ish) using the Nvidia card. Since I switched to ATI, it
wakes up much slower (20 seconds ish). It's not a huge deal but I am
curious why. Wouldn't the recovery time be a monitor thing rather than the
adapter? Is this adjustable? Other than the start-up time, the monitor
appears to operate the same way: amber light for standby and green for full
on.

Any comments?

I switched from an ATI AIW 8500 to the ATI AIW 9800 and I have the save
problem. I have tried different dirvers with no luck.
