I'm running XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2. No problems until three
weeks ago when shut down started to hang up on the "windows is shutting
down" screen. I tried several corrections suggested including updating
my Nvidia driver, making sure that ClearPageFileAtShutdown value was set
to "0" in the Registry and also set AutoEndTasks to "1". It was
suggested that I reduce the Service timeout if was set at 20000ms. I
was instructed to go to
HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\WaittoKIllServiceTimeout.
However there is no WaitToKillServiceTimeout file. I have no hidden
files. Could this file have been removed by Registry Medic which I run
several times a week, and could the lack of this file cause my problem?
If it could, how do I replace it?
