Slow Windows XP

I haven't installed excessive amounts on my computer, I
have run Disck Clean Up, I limited the amount of startup
apps and even ran a virus scan, but the mouse is still
lagging, when I drag and drop any internet explorer
window it has a shadow effect, and when I drag it over
something like AIM or Microsoft Word, AIM or word turns
white losing all the text it contains then redraws itself
like 3 seconds later. I do no understand. Can someone
please help me out or give me a link to somewhere that
might. I'd appreciate it, thank you.

Do you have xp completely up to date? I reinstalled xp on
my computer and before i installed service pack 1, it was
extremely slow, now its much faster. Also check how much
memory your background apps are using by pressing ctrl-alt-
del and clicking the processes tab. My other computer was
having similar problems and when i checked the memory
usage, there was a process called windrv.exe that was
continuously using 90-97% of available memory. I removed
the program and it solved the problem.

How much memory does your computer have?
What processor is it?
Are all the Windows XP bells and whistles still turned on?
What type of video card do you have? How much memory on it?
How much space do you have left on your hard drive?
Checked for Spyware/Adware lately?

some of the window updates will do that. it did on

mine. go to the knowledge base and find out if any u have
downloaded will slow down your pc. then u can delete it.
