i'm fairly new to xp and am having a user log on issue. This machine is used
primarily as a home computer,(web browsing, e-mail , homework, etc.). Being
as such I have had problems in the past (win98) of the various users in the
household of mis knowingly downloading programs or applications that have
malicous content.
I upgraded t a newer machine that has xp. i created a user account for the
household and kept my user account as administrator,(password protected).
However after logging on to a user account it takes forever for the machine
to load.
I checked the task manager nd there are all sorts of "funny" things running.
Since the user account is set as limited access I cannot remove this items
using msconfig or regedit. If I change the user account to administrator none
of the "funny" items appear in task manager.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Mike

You can disable the "funny things" from your Administrator account with
regedit. You have access to all user hives there. If you are not
comfortable working with the registry, don't mess around with it and
take the machine to a good local shop for cleaning (not a BestBuy or
CompUSA type of store).

Thanks for the reply. Would it be possible for you to direct me to where the
user account registry is located? I see nothing under the user account name.
Thnks again, Mike

As far as removing items from Startup in the registry, go to the
HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Current Version>Run (and Run Once) and
remove things. Do the same in the HKCU area. You could also try logging
into the user's account and running msconfig using the runas command
and run as administrator.
