Slow Upload Speeds With DSL

R

Roman

I am not getting the advertized 256kbps upload speeds
from my DSL provider. Sprint has checked the lines, moved
the port on the DSLAM, changed the DSL modem and has used
their computer to test the upload speed. They actually
reached 244kbps with their equipment but not mine. My
upload is consistantly between 110kbps and 144kbps. Since
the connection is pppOe I have tweaked MTU in the
registry to 1492. But the tweak tests only show 1440,
unless I bridge the DSL modem and use a router. But the
upload speed does not change. As does Sprint, I now
believe that it is something in my PC, some underlying
setting in the registry or somewhere, that blocks my
upload data. When I connect to an ftp site to measure my
upload speed, I see data flow but I also see 3 to 4
second pauses occurring while sending. So the data is not
flowing out continuously like when I do a down load.
Something is stopping my outflow. Help!!!??? What do I
do. Sprint has given up. They refuse to check out my PC
without charging me. Someone out there must have had this
problem?!?! I would greatly appreciate any assistance.
Thank you.

You might take this to the DSL forums at www.dslreports.com for a more
experienced audience. Since the route taken by both up- and downloads
is a major variable in determining max speeds, the best route to test
is to your ISP ftp server, IMO. You might also consult Navas DSL tuning
guide at http://cable-dsl.home.att.net/

Yes I undestand that and I don't expect them to. Although they did offer to look at my PC for It hink about $30 per 15 minutes. Thank you.

Thanks a bunch for your reply

Yes I went there but I do not see too much positive advice in regard to upload speeds. If Sprint did not get the 244kbps I would have given up a long time ago. I have read about limitation and how not much tweaking can be done and how what you get is what you get, blah blah blah. I just feel there is something that can be done to improve it. If I get anything over 200kbps I will be satisfied. I will let you all know when I find it. Thanks again for your reply
